65th Golden Globe Awards

Monday January 14, 2008

The press conference for the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards was last night, and viewers witnessed many upsets, aside from missing the traditional ceremony. While critics nailed certain categories, many underdogs walked away with awards -- The Great Debaters was not one of them. While Denzel Washington starred in 2 of the films nominated for Best Picture Drama, neither of them received the award. Atonement with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy walked away with the Golden Globe, and the film is likely to be nominated for an Academy Award as well -- not likely for Oprah's Debaters.

Oscar night will most likely pass on The Great Debaters -- Entertainment Weekly reports, while the film "scored a nod from the Globes, ...some view it as a TV movie dressed as a feature" -- but viewers can still have the pleasure of watching Oprah sit down with all the winners after the broadcast on her show, if the traditional ceremony is able to go on as planned.
