Are You Reading A New Earth?

Thursday March 6, 2008

More than 500,000 people signed on to watch the first of ten 90 minute long webinars from Oprah and A New Earth author Eckhart Tolle - were you one of them?

It is causing quite a stir that Oprah is supporting what many are calling New Age thinking and not sticking to traditional Christian beliefs. While Oprah typically flows with the masses, it seems as she gets older that she is realizing what she wants her life to be and takes action, sharing what she learns along the way - this change in the book club, and even Oprah publicly supporting Barack Obama's presidential campaign are examples of this shift. No longer does it seem that Oprah is necessarily making choices that will please her audience as a whole, but ones that with she feels will benefit her viewers based on her experiences.

Being a fan of all things Oprah, I am willing to give anything she suggests an open ear and an open mind, and I found A New Earth to be one of the most eye-opening pieces of writing I have ever read - regardless of its critics. I know many people feel the same way, just as many feel that the entire premise is ridiculous. The only thing I can say to those who reject the book, is that its contents speak to all religions in a way that the words unite beliefs instead of separate - making it information that can be digested by people of all ages, religions, nationalities, and so on. I hope that more people will give the concept a chance, or at least let those that are open to the ideas welcome them into their lives without judgment.
