Did Oprah Steal the "Big Give" Idea?

Thursday March 20, 2008

Oprah is being sued by a mother of 4 from Boston who claims she gave Harpo the idea for the Big Give back in 2005, according to the New York Daily News. Darlene Tracy proposed the concept of "The Philanthropist", a reality show which challenged contestants to help others, to an executive producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The first lawsuit was filed in Massachusetts by Tracy when the Big Give was first announced back in 2006 to try and stop the show from being aired. At that time Darlene Tracy was representing herself and the case was dismissed, but she has since arranged legal representation and filed again.

A spokesperson for Oprah Winfrey told the New York Daily News that "we agree with the judge that Tracy's claims against Harpo Productions Inc. are without merit."
