Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Oprah Show: Past Life Regressions

Tuesday May 13, 2008

Regardless of what your feelings are on past lives, new age, hypnotism or spirituality, today's show was an eye opener for everyone to consider and evaluate. I found Leon's experience with Dr. Weiss to be an amazing one with great results for Leon's life. The fact that Dr. Weiss himself was a skeptic at one point leads me to believe that his profound experience with Catherine was one that was enough for him to feel confident in his belief.

I was part of an experience in college during a resident advisor conference where a hypnotist came in to perform. The man selected a group of about 20 students and brought them on stage to be hypnotized and then made to do comical things. Being one of the 20 students selected, I went on stage and expected to let the process take its course - I just happened to be one of a few people at the time who was too "strong willed" for the process to take place. So needless to say, I became skeptical myself about the process of hypnosis and what could come of it. After watching today's show, I found that Dr. Weiss explained the process of hypnosis in a completely different way - as focused concentration. The students would many times say after coming out of their trance-like state (I saw the performance a number of times) that they didn't remember what they did. Dr. Weiss' method seems completely different and much more connected to the subconscious and a different part of the mind.

What did you think of today's show and how do you feel about past life regression? Post your comments below.

I remember when I was a child Phil Donahue had interviewed a woman on his show, who claimed that she remembered her past life. In fact, she visited the house where she claimed she grew up in. She knew details about the house and her previous life that nobody could have known. It was very fascinating. I found the Oprah show to be interesting as well. I’ve never have been hypnotized before, but I would be open to it. I believe that in order to rule something out, we must try it ourselves first.

I want to commend Oprah for her courage in exposing her tremendous audience to alternative human experiences and helping people to open their minds to new truths and old ones forgotten and gain new perspectives on their lives, as well as challenging them to realize the unlimited potential which resides within all of us when we dare break out of the effete and stifling dictates of religious authoritarianism. She has a unique venue and opportunity to assist the awakening of our somnabulist culture and expand our consciousness to new heighths of possibility. This is what living more abundantly is all about: more consciousness = more life = greater tolerance and acceptance of all forms of truth seeking and feelings of universal connectedness. You Go Girl.

I thought the show was absolutely fascinating! I truly believe that we, as humans, are just beginning to tap into some of the phenomenal potential of our minds and that as we do, love will truly win the day…. I’m a minister in a church who is a far cry from what many believe consists only of authoritarians, closed-minded zealots! Peace and love be with you all!

(5) Steve says:

Dr. Weiss was clearly leading the patient. He asked him if it was a “fighter” plane. Watch the show again and you’ll see that the patient was just talking about floating and then Dr. Weiss leads him into a air combat war story. If your interested in PLR, check it out in Wikipedia. More information there on one page than I got from watching an hour of Oprah - which was frankly very confusing.

(6) Ann says:

I agree with Steve’s comment above about the doctor leading the patient. I think it’s fine for Oprah to do a show like this, but she said she believes in past lives. That’s a blod statement. She needs to keep her personal opinions to herself. Many of her fans do whatever she says, so she needs to be careful about leading people on.

(7) Monet says:

I think Oprah is just saying what she believe in, most of us should be able to draw our own conclusion. Oprah is a human being, she is not perfect and we should not put that pressure on her.

(8) Lorraine says:

Gee, if I had my own successful show I would feel free to express my opinions. Why shouldn’t Oprah let her personal beliefs be known?

I found the program illuminating, definitely food for thought. The more open minds, open hearts, the better.

(9) Elizabeth says:

I enjoy when Oprah reveals her own opinions - while she does the show to educate others, part of that education is sharing what she knows and has learned from the many people she comes in contact with. Many people are interested in her true feelings and her honesty is inspiring, she is a genuine person and makes people feel comfortable with her, even if they don’t agree with her.

The show recap, if anyone missed it, will be posted by the end of the day with complete details. You can find it here: http://oprah.about.com/od/oprahshowrecaps/The_Oprah_Winfrey_Show_Recaps.htm

Dr. Weiss will return June 17th for more on past life regressions.

(10) Xiomara says:

People have to understand that in Hypnosis the patient is always in control, the inhibitions are lowered. If you have never experienced Hypnosis than there is not much you can say. You can do Hypnosis for something as simple as stress relief and just listening to the suggestions that the Hypnotist is giving you. The Hypnotist can not make you say anything, agree to anything or do anything unless the patient is willing to do so. Oprah is very brave to put something like this on her show knowing that there are many close minded individuals out there.

(11) JENNIFER says:

WOW….I must first say…WAY TO GO OPRAH!!! I am so pleased she aired a show with the concept of life after death and past lives. So many individuals are closed minded and live in a bubble that it is hard for them to grasp the true nature of LIFE here on Earth. The world would be so much better if evveryone believed we are all connected and God is the Love force that holds everything together. It took me many years to grasp the TRUTH and only after losing my step-son from a slow death of leukemia did I take on the journey of studying the after life. I love that Oprah took the leap forward and hopefully this step will lead to many more journeys! Peace!
