"The Great Debaters"
Harpo Films second major motion picture release opened Christmas Day -- The Great Debaters was directed by and stars Academy Award winner Denzel Washington as professor Melvin B. Tolson, the debate coach of Wiley College in the 1930s. The movie is a feel-good story, based on actual events, in which an all African-American college debate team beats Harvard University in a competition. The film is receiving solid reviews nationwide and has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Picture.
"The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards" are scheduled to appear on NBC Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 8pm. Denzel Washington is also nominated for a best actor award for his work in American Gangster and the film is up for best picture againt The Great Debaters. Interesting. I for one can't wait to see how it all plays out.
