Best Actor Nominee - Daniel Day-Lewis:

Daniel Day-Lewis appeared on the Oprah Show via satellite to discuss his most recent Academy Award nomination. This is his 4th nomination, with one win from his performance in the film My Left Foot, a role Oprah said she loved him in. Oprah congratulated Daniel on his "transcendent performance" and asked him how he breaks away from the role once shooting is complete. Daniel responded that the feeling is like "the house is haunted for a while" because "it takes time to let go of a character."

Daniel expressed how the script was very powerful in the way it was written and that he felt drawn towards the character. Known for his preparation for films, Oprah asked how he prepared to become a father, he responded, "I don't think there's anything you can do to prepare for that."

A clip of the other best actor nominees included: George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Tommy Lee Jones, and Viggo Mortensen.

Best Actress Nominee - Laura Linney:

Laura Linney is nominated for her role in the film The Savages a film she felt had a terrific script where she could simply "flesh out what is already there on the page." Laura didn't expect to be nominated, so she found out by a call from her French soon-to-be mother-in-law. Laura knows what it's like to experience Oscar night as this is her 3rd nomination. She said that it's easy to get distracted by the event but that it's "important to celebrate the good stuff because it's hard to come by."

A clip of the other best actress nominees included: Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Marion Cotillard, and Ellen Page.

Best Supporting Actress Nominee - Ruby Dee:

After 60 years in the business, 83 year old Ruby Dee has been nominated for her first Oscar for her role in American Gangster. Ruby was not watching the announcement because she did not expect to be nominated for such a small role, so she was told by her granddaughter - she was very excited. Ruby played Denzel Washington's character's mother in the film and was only on screen for 10 minutes. She felt connected to the script because she grew up in Harlem and understood the story and the men. Ruby credits her late husband, actor Ossie Davis, as being her best agent.

A clip of the other best supporting actress nominees included: Cate Blanchett, Amy Ryan, Tilda Swinton, and Saoirse Ronan

Best Supporting Actor Nominee - Casey Affleck:

Casey Affleck is nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Robert Ford in the film The Assassination of Jesse James... with Brad Pitt. Casey worked with Pitt for the 3 Ocean's movies and was rather comfortable with the star. Working with his brother Ben on the film Gone Baby Gone was another experience, he said "there was definitely a second language, most can't be repeated on TV."

Casey has never been a part of the Oscar celebration, so he said he's not too sure what to expect - and that he's not completely looking forward to it. The experience is overwhelming to him since it's the "monster of all red carpets."

A clip of the other best supporting actor nominees included: Javier Bardem, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Hal Holbrook, and Tom Wilkinson.

Best Supporting Actress Nominee - Amy Ryan:

Amy Ryan is experiencing quite a rollercoaster ride with her 1st major film role and Oscar nomination. Amy is being recognized for her role as Helene McCready, a drug-addicted mother in Gone Baby Gone. Amy had to play a woman with an authentic Boston accent and was worried about getting it right. To prepare for the role she spent time with plenty of locals and even taped a friend speaking. For a woman from Queens, NY, she pulled it off with flying colors.

Best Actress Nominee - Marion Cotillard:

Marion Cotillard never thought she would be involved with Hollywood film awards - being a French actress in a French movie. When Marion won the Golden Globe award, it was delivered to her in a hotel room in France. Because Marion is not familiar with the Academy Awards, she said that she cannon be disappointed by the results or the event - she will "definitely enjoy every single second of it."
