Show Summary:
Special Highlights:
This episode featured the following highlights:
- Oprah and Gayle continued their adventure by building a fire, and attempting to cook a complicated dinner of fish, corn and potatoes. While they started the fire at 7:15, they didn't sit down to eat until 8:45!
- Settling in for an evening camping style, Oprah made popcorn and shared with neighbors with a glass of wine and, of course, s'mores!
- Park Ranger Shelton Johnson stopped by the camp to tell the story of the Buffalo Soldiers in costume to entertain and educate the campers.
- The next morning Oprah and Gayle both joked with each other about having money but still getting bed head. The pair had a breakfast of eggs and avocado before getting ready to fly fish in the Merced River.
- The friends ended their trip by taking a visit to the Yosemite Stables and riding mules to see the park.
What to Take Away from the Show:
In the two shows Oprah made great points that camping does take a bit of work, but that you meet great people along the way, can get away from the rush of work and life, and can see parts of our country that are best experienced in a sleeping bag. One of the best lines from the show was when Oprah said that "the truth comes out when you're camping." How true it is that you can't hide your messy hair, clean face, and wrinkled clothes, but you can grasp the silence and the wonder and peace of nature.
