Friday Live in Chicago - KFC Coupon:
For the final Friday Live in Chicago episode of the season, Oprah welcomed back Ali Wentworth and Mark Consuelos to join she and Gayle for a summer kick-off BBQ. To start the show, however, the panel welcomed KFC President Roger Eaton to speak on the difficulties and plans for the free meal coupon that had been given out the Tuesday before. Roger spoke via Skype that the restaurant was not prepared for the 10 million coupons that were downloaded, but did their best to serve 4 million meals on the first day.
Originally hoping that people would spread the coupon out over the given weeks it was good for, KFC now has had to make some adjustments to the use. People who downloaded the coupon would have to get a rain check for a specific time period to redeem it in an attempt to lessen the load on the company at one time. The coupons ended May 19, 2009.
Summer Kick-Off BBQ with Chef Adam Perry Lange:
Chef Adam Perry Lang, who is the grill master at Daisy May's BBQ in NYC and also the author of Serious Barbecue settled in with his grills on the Harpo lot to kick off the summer with a backyard BBQ. Adam genuinely loves what he does and shared with viewers that making good BBQ just takes patience. For the Friday Live BBQ, Adam started cooking the night before the show! Adam's secret to great BBQ is low heat and slow cooking with added flavors like jalapeno and peach to his recipes. If you don't have hours to wait, your best BBQ bets are steak and fish.
Seal's Performance and New Album:
Seal's latest album, Soul is a mix of classic songs, from greats such as Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. While Seal had nerves recording songs that mean so much to people, he shared that he is still proud of what he has been able to do with them. In addition to his album, Seal is also expecting his 4th child with wife Heidi Klum, 3rd biological - and it's a girl!
Seal performed "A Change Is Gonna Come" for viewers.
