About the Book - For One More Day:
Chick Benetto is a has been baseball player who has turned so heavily to alcohol that his own daughter doesn't want him at her wedding. Reaching the lowest point in his life, he returns to his hometown with plans to commit suicide. Before he is able to go forward with anything, his deceased mother returns to him, for one last day together. They spend the day walking through a life he had lived, but had never really seen. After his journey, Chick is able to answer the questions he has battled through his entire life.
About the Film - For One More Day:
Premiering Sunday, December 9, 2007 on ABC, For One More Day is an Oprah Winfrey Presents television movie.
The film stars Emmy winner Michael Imperioli and Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, as Chick and Posey Benetto. Director, Lloyd Kramer, also directed the TV film version of Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Nick Lachey performs the song Ordinary Day on the soundtrack of the film.
Mitch Albom's Inspiration for the Book:
While writing another book, Mitch was struck with a thought after a phone call with his own mother.
When I hung up the phone I was hit with a wave of sadness -- and I thought, what's it going to be like when I'm not able to make that phone call? When I reach for that phone, and I'm going to have to take my hand back because she's not there? I was depressed over something that hadn't happened yet and I realized, wow, if you feel that strongly about it now, maybe this should be what you're writing. And I literally stopped that other book on whatever page it was on and began For One More Day that day.
How Others Would Spend One More Day:
- Kris Carlson: Wife of author Richard Carlson (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff), Kris and their daughters Jasmine and Kenna, are grieving the loss of their father and husband from a pulmonary embolism in 2006. The words Richard left in letters to his wife and daughters have given them strength to know that he lived his life to the fullest. With one more day with Richard, they would start out just like any other morning they had together.
