Dr. Weiss explained that phobias and fears in this life are connected to experiences in past lives. Jodi has had a phobia - extreme irrational fear of dolls since she was a child. To find out the cause of her fear, she was hypnotized by Dr. Weiss and taken back to a past life. Jodi spoke during her session that she was welcomed to the light by her grandfather and that he told her that it would be ok.
On the show Jodi described the experience as intense and that though she was skeptical going in, she was willing to give it a try. Dr. Weiss concluded that dolls in this case served as a metaphor for children to Jodi.
Dr. Oz and Dr. Weiss agreed that it doesn't matter what you call the phenomenon of past lives or past life regression - angels, spirits, masters, miracles - as long as you keep an open mind and examine the possibility of something more. Dr. Oz explained that there are different ways of looking at past life regression - skeptics could say it's just wishful thinking, others could think it's tapping into a larger consciousness or finally a theory in physics that recognized 11 dimensions instead of 3.
For a more in-depth past life regression, clips were shown from a Canadian documentary of a woman named Natasha who was hypnotized and taken back to a past life that was documented by a reporter and researched. Natasha mentioned in the session that she was from Nepal in the 1930s and her name was Manju - she was traveling into India and spoke the native language. Natasha mentioned the city of Anji and an open market where she sold spices and grains. Sarah researched the information and met Natasha in India to see that the details of her session were real.
Dr. Weiss described a session he had with a surgeon from China who was visiting with a translator - during the session, the woman recalled a life in which she spoke English as her native language and began to speak during the session. Before the session, the surgeon could not even say hello in English, let alone speak fluently.
Dr. Oz described deja vu which comes from the deepest parts of the brain - these ideas, Dr. Oz shared, should be a crowbar to our beliefs that everything in our world and experiences is rational and explainable.
Another session with Dr. Weiss featured Erin, a woman with an extreme fear of sharp corners and touching her neck. During her session, Erin touched on a past life in which she was a Native American man who was being attacked by a spear as revenge because of a woman. Touching on another past life, Erin recalled being strangled while sitting on the edge of a bed while putting on stockings leading her to believe that she was a prostitute. Dr. Weiss had Erin visualize a corner and let go of the fear to help her get past her phobia in this life.
Dr. Weiss explained that souls or spirits come to the earth school to learn lessons - and in this, the choice of parents is very important. What Dr. Weiss also shared is that the chosen parents have free will - children don't choose abusive parents, but the potential of the person. The most important part of the process is to realize the body/mind/spirit connection and to realize that you never die because you are never really born. A goal in life is to learn that we are spiritual beings having an experience on earth.
Dr. Weiss has been hypnotized to experience past life regression and recalls that he was a Babylonian priest who misused his power for greed in one life, but in another a Scottish priest in the Middle Ages who was killed for speaking about reincarnation and other forbidden subjects - he shared that he must have gotten over his fear of speaking out in his past life.
On the April 1, 2008 episode on night terrors, guest Amy had a recurring dream that someone was coming into her room to hurt or kill her. Oprah wanted to have Amy experience a session with Dr. Weiss to see if there was something behind her dream - Amy at first declined because she was skeptical of the process and didn't know if she believed in past lives, but changed her mind and decided to try.
Amy's touch with a past life took her to medieval times where she found herself in front of a crowd dressed in nice clothes, seemingly a royal woman. Dr. Weiss had Amy move forward where she saw herself with a baby wrapped in a white blanket. Again moving forward, Amy saw herself sick but not knowing with what as her son sat with her saddened by her illness. Dr. Weiss instructed Amy to let go of her fear of leaving her children because the event already happened.
On the show, Amy shared that she had not had a night terror since and experienced pleasant dreams for the first time.
