Original Air Date:

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

Guest:

Author, Elizabeth Gilbert

Book:

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia

Book Synopsis:

In her early 30s, Elizabeth Gilbert realized the life she was leading was not what she was meant to do. Hitting rock bottom after her divorce, Liz took off on a year long adventure of self-discovery in three parts. She set out to find pleasure in Italy, spirituality in India, and balance in Bali.

Show Quotes from Elizabeth Gilbert:

"I really feel the only non-negotiable thing you need is to find a tiny little corner of your life, of your day, of stillness where you can begin to ask yourself those burning essential question of your life -- Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going? What am I here for?"

"Be realistic about what you can and cannot do in one day and one life"

An Extra Guest Appearance:

Robert, Liz's friend from Texas was also a guest on the show. Liz met Robert, while on her quest, at the ashram outside of Mumbai. Robert taught Liz a valuable lesson about soul mates --

A soul mate sometimes enters our life as someone to stir us up. To hold up the mirror so that we can see ourselves more clearly and antagonize us and make us so uncomfortable that we have to change because we can't continue to look at the same thing because we're looking at it clearly now.

Liz Inspired Her Family:

Elizabeth's mom, Carole, appeared on the show as a guest as well. Carole described how she was able to learn about life through her daughter's journey -- it became her own.
