Oprah welcomed country music stars and mother daughter duo Wynonna and Naomi Judd.
Show Summary:
After appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show more than 15 times in the last 20 years, country music stars and mother-daughter duo Wynonna and Naomi Judd, who on occasion have been accompanied by sister/actress Ashley Judd, returned to the show to discuss their upcoming farewell concert tour and the changes in Wynonna's life since their last appearance.
The pair has had a complicated relationship and has allowed their appearances on Oprah's stage to be honest and revealing to help other mothers and daughters learn what they can do differently to help their situations. This episode was no different as Wynonna and Naomi shared the therapy tools they have learned to validate each other and make their communication more open.
Special Highlights:
This episode featured the following highlights:
- Wynonna opened the show with a solo interview with Oprah where she showed that she had lost nearly 60 pounds and had come to a good place in her life after a difficult divorce and medical issues.
- Dealing with the betrayal of her ex-husband, who was convicted of attempted sexual battery against a minor, took Wynonna into the depths of darkness where she handed over her struggles and decided she would not be defined by his actions.
- Kicking off their farewell tour on November 26, 2010, Wynonna and Naomi Judd have been deeply involved in each other's lives both personally and professionally, which caused them to be close and conflicted. The pair shared how they have learned to talk to each other without causing further anger or pain.
- To end the show footage of a tour of the 1,000 acre Judd farm outside of Nashville, Tennessee led by Naomi Judd was shown.
What to Take Away from the Show:
Wynonna Judd, through her self discovery process and journey of healing, has learned wisdom and lessons that she shares in the most natural of ways while discussing her life. Throughout her interview with Oprah and her mother, Wynonna expressed profound but simple ideas that have helped her and could serve to help others and they walk through the fires of life.
Some of the lessons Wynonna shared during the show included: asking someone "Is this a good time for you?" before launching into a discussion; instead of saying no, state "That doesn't work for me." when having to turn down a request; "Know who you are, not what you do." when you feel things aren't going your way; and finally, as a tip from her therapist, "Lean into the pain..." and eventually you will wake up in a stronger place.
